People in Austin, I want to meet you.
I am a writer who is inspired by the incredible stories encased within every person, and it is my mission as of tonight, in seizing this rare moment of pure, childlike excitement, to find the stories in Austin while exposing myself to the realness the city has to offer. And of course, to share and release it all.
I moved to Austin two and a half months ago. I was seeking a change. I felt stagnant and was experiencing the worst drought in inspiration. I wanted to go to a place that celebrated art. Where I would find like-minded and interesting people. Austin makes five cities I have temporarily called home in the last six years, and I am tired of feeling like a guest in someone else's home.
I am a transient, walking and wandering through cities, observing, listening to them breathe. And now I have found myself in Austin. Without anything to rely on, I have immersed myself into many people's greatest fear. I am alone in a city brand new to me and I know no one.
So here is my proposal: Project Austin.
Every week, I will meet a stranger. I will go to a new place and approach someone. Ask if they would like to talk with a stranger, to tell and share their story. And I will document it here. I will ask each person for their recommendations for the best places in Austin, their favorite for whatever reason, and will venture there to find the next person.
Hello, Austin. My name is Evey.
It's nice to meet you.
